Florentino Pérez has managed Real Madrid almost continuously since 2000 (was out between 2006-09). In the upcoming presidential election at the La Liga giant, strong competition awaits from businessman Enrique Riquelme. With two seasons without titles and chaos in the locker room, Perez is weakened. Riquelme is also working on two future signings that will give him the big advantage.

Riquelme, the president of the water and energy group Cox, has until Saturday to formally submit his candidacy. He will then be the first official challenger to Pérez, who has already announced his re-election. The deadline for submitting presidential candidacies is May 23. To qualify, candidates must provide a guarantee of €187 million – equivalent to 15% of the annual budget – secured by private assets. If more than one candidate meets these criteria, the nomination committee will oversee the members’ voting.

According to El Confidencial , Riquelme is counting on two trump cards in the power struggle at Real Madrid. Firstly, he aims to win the voters with the high-profile signing of Erling Haaland, and there has reportedly been contact with the Norwegian through his network, it is reported.

His second ace should be Jürgen Klopp: Riquelme’s advisor has already contacted the German’s camp.
