Betting on football has always caught the attention of Danes. Since the launch of Dansk Tipstjeneste in 1948, we have been tipping and betting on football. In the beginning, it was exclusively Danish and English football, today there are virtually no limits to what you can bet on. If you are new to the world of betting, it can seem almost overwhelming with the many markets, but some betting markets are clearly more popular than others. We look at the most popular ones here.

The classic match-winner game is still the players’ favorite

Even though there are a wealth of exciting betting opportunities today on the best Danish betting and odds sites, it is funnily enough still the classic markets that players revolve around. Among the absolute most popular is the simple match-winner game or the 1X2 market, as it is also called.

Here it is simply a matter of guessing the outcome of the match in the sense that you are betting on either a win for the home team, a win for the away team or a draw. This game has been around since sports betting was introduced in Denmark. The difference between the old days and modern betting is that in the past, you had to bet on more than just one match. Today, you can choose to bet on the outcome of just one match.

Handicap games in various forms

Another super popular market is the handicap market. This type of betting did not exist in the old days, but has appeared with online bookmakers over the past 20 years. In handicap betting, one team is awarded a goal or more before the start.

This often happens in football matches, where there is a clear difference between the two sides. Here it is possible to equalize the odds by awarding the underdog one or more goals before the start.

It could be in a Superliga match between FC Copenhagen and Vejle in Parken. Here, FC Copenhagen will be the big favorite and the odds on the match-winner bet will be low on FC Copenhagen. This can cause some people to drop the game because they don’t think it’s attractive to bet on odds that are too low.

Instead, you can choose to bet on FC Copenhagen as the winner in a handicap game, where Vejle, for example, has a goal in advance. For obvious reasons, this makes the match more difficult for FC Copenhagen, as they must win by more than one goal. On the other hand, you then get higher odds on FC Copenhagen. Some people think it is exciting to play even bigger handicaps if they expect a big win for the favorite. It is often possible to bet on handicap bets where the weak team has two, three or four goals in advance.

Goal bets will soon be as popular as match-winner bets

Goal game betting markets have grown steadily in popularity over the years. In this betting market, it’s all about guessing the number of goals a football match. You often approach it by betting on whether the match will contain over or under a certain number of goals. The normal over/under line is 2.50 goals.

Here you choose to bet on whether the match contains either under or over 2.50 goals. If two goals are scored, the match will go under, if three or more goals are scored, the match will be over. This is a two-way outcome bet – as the outcome can only be either over or under.

Many bettors also like to experiment with betting on higher or lower goalline markets. For example, you can bet on whether the match contains over 4.50 goals or 5.50 goals, which is of course less likely and therefore also has higher odds.

Popular Corner Kick Games

Until a few years ago, it was not possible to bet on corner kicks, but it is today, and it is played on a large scale by the Danish players. Here, it is really about focusing your betting on the corner kicks in question in the match.

For example, you can bet on the number of corners, i.e. whether there is over or under a certain number of corners. It is also possible to bet on who will get the most corners in the match. This game is quite similar to the match winner bet and can also be played in handicap form.

Goalscorer bets and betting on player performances

A growing market is also the popular goalscorer betting market. Here, the bookmakers offer odds on whether the players in question will score in the match. You can also bet on who you think will score the first goal of the match or who will score a hat-trick.

It is also often possible to bet on betting markets regarding warnings and expulsions. In the same connection, you may also encounter statement games that could be called, for example: ‘Player X scores in the match and gets a yellow card’ or similar. Here there is an extra large odds to bet on, as there are several outcomes that must occur to win the bet.
