The coach is always to blame. This seems to have become a truth in the crazy world of football. The Tunisian Football Association is the very example of this. In the first World Cup match against Sweden, Tunisia suffered a heavy 1-5 loss and coach Sabri Lamouchi was fired before the second match. In came Hervé Renard, who himself had been fired as Saudi Arabian national team coach just before the World Cup. Two games later, he is also history.

Renard signed a short contract, which was only valid during the World Cup. After that, the plan was for the parties to talk about the future. A 0-4 loss against Japan and a 1-3 loss against the Netherlands with Renard at the helm was all it took to talk.

On Saturday, Renard himself confirmed on Instagram that he is done as Tunisian national team coach. The proud football nation has been through one of its weakest World Cup finals ever, the Frenchman barely had time to greet the players before he was to lead the squad against Japan and the Netherlands.
