An interesting new update has emerged on Mo Salah’s life in Turkey, just days after he played his tenth league game for Trabzonspor since leaving Liverpool in the summer.

The Egyptian king spent nine years at Anfield, winning the Premier League title twice and helping the Reds to their sixth Champions League title.

Even last season, many believed that the now 34-year-old Salah still had a lot to contribute at the highest level. After his emotional announcement, Jamie Carragher hinted that he would surely end up somewhere like Napoli or AC Milan in Serie A.

Instead, Salah chose Turkey – but not with the usual suspects such as Galatasaray or Besiktas. He chose Trabzonspor, a club that is not usually expected to challenge for major titles, but has increased its ambitions since his arrival.

How Mohamed Salah is doing at Trabzonspor after 10 games

If Salah’s 2026/27 season is to be summed up in one saying, it has to be “the gift that keeps on giving”. The Egyptian continues to defy the test of time and continues to prove that he is the gold standard for modern footballers – with eight goals and three more assists in ten Super Lig games.

Salah has directly contributed to more than 45 percent of the team’s league goals and currently tops the goal list, with Trabzonspor in third place in the table – ahead of teams like Fenerbahçe and just three points behind the league leaders. He has also recorded two goals and two assists in two Europa Conference League games. Having scored and assisted in 13 European games since the start of the 2017/18 season, he has extended his record for most appearances with both one goal and one assist in UEFA competitions – with his closest rival four behind.

With an assist in a 3-0 win away to Samsunspor in October, Salah also became the first player to reach 10 goal involvements in just seven Super Lig games since records began – once again setting the standard and showing no signs of slowing down.

According to Mohamed Kaoud, a journalist for BBC Arabic, Salah will be granted Turkish citizenship along with his family.

He is also ready to receive the State Medal for Outstanding Service – a high-ranking award that reflects an “unprecedented increase” in the sports and tourism sector in Turkey in recent times. On Facebook, he wrote:

“I have been told that Mohamed Salah will ‘definitely’ be granted Turkish citizenship. Officials from Trabzon are currently working with Turkish authorities to speed up the naturalization process for the Egyptian football icon, as well as his wife and their three children.

“Furthermore, Salah will receive the ‘State Medal of Excellence’ at a grand ceremony and will receive a high award in recognition of his contribution to an unprecedented upswing in both sports and tourism in Turkey – all achieved in record time.”

The Premier League has had an abundance of extremely talented players, but who will join?

In a response, Masrawy, citing a source, claimed that “there has been no official contact with Salah by Turkish officials regarding his acquisition of Turkish citizenship,” but clarified that he will meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the near future.

His arrival at Trabzonspor has been disruptive – with a reported 116,000 shirts sold by the end of September. That 152% increase brought in around £8 million in revenue, and Turkiye Today reports that Salah spends 20 percent of the funds on products with his own name on them.
