Juventus are looking for a new striker – three names on their wish list

Juventus are struggling in front of goal and are now looking for reinforcements in attack. On the shortlist are Atlético Madrid’s Alexander Sørloth, Monaco’s Folarin Balogun and Al-Qadsiah’s Mateo Retegui.

It was almost a transition for Sørloth this summer, but the price demand from Madrid, after the personal was in place, was too juicy.

According to TUTTOmercatoWEB, Juve’s slow start to the season can largely be attributed to the strikers’ goal drought. Both Nick Woltemade and Randal Kolo Muani have just three goals each so far, while young Jeff Ekhator has yet to play – he is returning from a hamstring injury.

Thus, the pressure is back on the Juventus management to make a winter move and strengthen the squad to rebuild the season. Balogun has long been predicted to leave Monaco and could be available this winter – but he is likely to be expensive. Atlético may be more open to letting Sørloth go, even on a temporary deal. Retegui, on the other hand, may be persuaded to return to Italy from the Saudi Pro League – for the sake of his international career.

Bologna’s Antonio Raimondo, one of Serie A’s hottest players right now, is also in Juve’s spotlight. However, he is on loan to Frosinone, and a mid-season transfer could prove difficult.

Two problems at once

Juve’s goal drought requires both short-term and long-term solutions. They need goals here and now to get the season going – which means Luciano Spalletti needs to find a solution that lasts until January, and then be in a position to ask for a striker that suits his style of play.

Beyond that, Juventus have long needed a long-term answer to their goalscoring problems, regardless of where the goals come from. Woltemade and Kolo Muani have had their moments – but that’s all they’ve had.
