After leaving Manchester United as a free agent, the 26-year-old has made a crucial choice about his future.
Jadon Sancho’s contract expired on June 30 – and after five years at Old Trafford, he left the club without having signed for anyone new. The last two seasons he had been on loan at Chelsea and Aston Villa respectively. It was never realistic that United would offer him a new contract.

Aston Villa had an option to buy him permanently after the loan period – but turned it down, despite the club winning the Europa League.
Trained in the 10th division – but the offers did not materialize
Earlier this month, Sancho was spotted training with Flixton FC – a team as low as the 10th division – to stay fit while waiting for a new club.
But now it seems that something is finally in the offing.
BBC Sport reports that Sancho has received offers from several named Premier League clubs ahead of the upcoming season.
Nevertheless, the winger prefers to go abroad – and Borussia Dortmund is specifically mentioned as a club with concrete interest.
Third period in Dortmund?
A third spell at Dortmund could await the Englishman, who last played for the national team in 2021.
German football pundit Kevin Hatchard stated on talkSPORT that there is a “willingness” among Dortmund’s leading figures to go through with a deal – but that it is likely to happen late in the window.
Other options:
- Roma attempted a bid of £20 million last summer – and could be relevant again after they failed to sign Crysencio Summerville.
- Fiorentina has also been mentioned as a possibility.
Thrived at Villa – but chose to move on
Although Sancho didn’t end up at Aston Villa, it was clear that he thrived under Unai Emery.
“It’s my teammates and the manager who have given me confidence and belief,” he said in an interview with TNT Sports in March.
“My teammates have been very good to me. I feel I can do more, because I know myself. But I’m happy that the team is doing well, and that we’re in a good position.
“When you have a captain like John McGinn, you know what the mood is. John has been fantastic from day one, so a big thank you to him for that.
Now it remains to be seen whether Sancho opts for a surprise Premier League return – or if there will be a reunion with Dortmund and the Bundesliga. One thing is certain: the decision is approaching.
