If anyone should be in doubt that Tottenham need James Maddison, the doubts have been removed after Monday’s Premier League game. For the first time in 18 months, the previously long-term injured Maddison was in the starting eleven. Fourteen minutes into the game against Coventry, the magic came.

What a moment! it came from Phil McNulty at the BBC.

Because James Maddison responded with space from the start by thundering the ball in from outside the box for a 1-0 lead. First Maddison goal, first lead for Tottenham in the Premier League this season.

Before Monday’s game, Tottenham and De Zerbi were without wins, three points from 6 games and rock bottom of the table.

Madisson showed the way, Tottenham could celebrate the evening with a 3-1 victory.

Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith was similarly enthusiastic on behalf of the Spurs supporters.

“You never lose it, you never forget how to do it. Sometimes it’s not easy to get it right, but he showed the quality there. The quality that Spurs so desperately need. That was absolutely beautiful by James Maddison. This was exactly what the Spurs fans needed!

Then Maddison is back, as are Tottenham. Now the positive force will create the change that saves the season.
