When centre-back and captain Virgil van Dijk was brought to Liverpool from Southampton in January 2018 for a record €84.65 million, right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold was already a club veteran.
Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all on expiring contracts and while Virgil van Dijk is the closest to an extension, Mohamed Salah has declared he is in his final season at Anfield.
The English and especially the Spanish media are quite sure that Liverpool’s stalwart Trent Alexander-Arnold will soon be a thing of the past at the Merseyside club. – “Everyone” reports that the right-back will not extend with Liverpool – and instead join Real Madrid as boss this summer. One of the 26-year-old’s requirements for eventual stay, is to get the captaincy role in addition to a long-term contract.
Now it seems that Liverpool are doing everything in their power to keep him apart from taking away Virgil van Dijk’s captain’s armband. According to The Mirror, Liverpool have made a salary offer that will make Trent Alexander-Arnold forget about the captain’s armband for a while.
Liverpool have given a contract for the next five years worth £78 million.
It is not clear how Alexander-Arnold reacts to the offer. Trent Alexander-Arnold has played for Liverpool his entire career.
