The versatile Atlético Madrid player Marcos Llorente is open to negotiations with any club from January, as his contract expires in 2027.

The perfect striker solution for Manchester United will be ready in January

Liverpool will strengthen their squad next summer and hope to land a deal as early as the winter window. The 31-year-old footballer’s contract expires on June 30, 2027, and he can negotiate with foreign clubs from January if he does not first strike a renewal deal.

Liverpool are closely monitoring Marcos Llorente’s contract situation
TEAMtalk reports that Liverpool are fully aware that they are not alone in wanting Llorente’s future. Chelsea and Manchester City have also been linked with the player, whose versatility allows him to take on the role of right-back, inside runner or midfielder.

Llorente’s contract makes his situation a potential opportunity for interested clubs. If he reaches January 2027 without renewing, he will be able to negotiate freely with other teams to join at the end of the season – without the destination club having to pay a single penny in transfer fees to Atlético.

Currently, there is no formal offer from Liverpool or any agreement with the player’s camp. The situation depends on two factors: that the English club decides to move forward with the interest, and that Atlético are unable to complete the contract extension they are already negotiating with the player.

The operation is also not solved by competition. Chelsea and Manchester City seem to have the same information as possible candidates, so Liverpool will have to convince Llorente with a sporting and contractual proposal if he decides to take the next step.

Anfield – a scenario Marcos Llorente knows well
Llorente’s relationship with Anfield has a relevant background. In March 2020, the Madrid native scored twice against Liverpool in the second leg of the Champions League last eight – a game Atlético won 2-3 after extra time and secured advancement. In total, he has five goals in three games at the English temple.

That game cemented his role as one of the most important offensive weapons on Diego Simeone’s team in that campaign. His ability to cover different positions also explains why his name appears on the radar of teams looking for solutions for more than one position.

Liverpool will need to consider their options at right-back – a position where they have had to deal with physical issues and changes in availability. Llorente’s versatility could offer an additional option, although there is no public confirmation that the club has chosen to prioritise his involvement.

Atlético Madrid want to avoid a free exit
Atlético are in talks with the player’s camp to try and extend a contract that expires in June 2027. Information published at the end of September suggested that both parties were considering continuing together, although the deal was not yet finalized.

Llorente, born January 30, 1995, joined Atlético in 2019 from Real Madrid. Since then, he has alternated between roles in midfield and on the right wing – a flexibility that increases the number of potential interested parties.

January 2027 will be the decisive date for Marcos Llorente’s future: if he does not sign earlier, he will be able to listen to offers for next season. Liverpool will still have room to study the operation, but Atlético retains the option to finish the renewal before the player can negotiate with other clubs.
