Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has been given a surprising new role in football – alongside his expert job at Sky Sports.
Carragher made 737 appearances for Liverpool during his playing career, winning numerous trophies.

The centre-back from Bootle won both the FA Cup and League Cup several times, and also helped win the Champions League in 2005.
Today, Carragher is best known as a sharp commentator and pundit – a career he has continued with since retiring as a player.
The 48-year-old naturally still has strong ties to the city and Merseyside, and his son also plays football in the northwest of England.
Now it has been confirmed that Carragher has got a new job in football, where he will stay true to his roots and help a local club.
Carragher into advisory role at Marine FC
It has now been confirmed by Marine FC, who play their home games in Crosby, Liverpool, that they have appointed Carragher to an advisory role.
Some may remember Marine for their historic FA Cup run, where they played Tottenham Hotspur at home.
In the announcement, Carragher is referred to as a resident of Crosby, where Marine is based. The club confirmed the appointment at the same time as they have recently secured an option on land for a new stadium development.
On the appointment of Carragher, James Leary, general manager of Marine, states that Carragher is someone who really cares about football in the local community, and that he has followed the club closely.
“This is a brilliant moment for Marine Football Club. Jamie is someone who really cares about football and the local community, and he has been following closely what we have built up here over the last few years.

“His experience and network will be of great help to the club as we continue to take Marine forward in the years to come,” says Leary.
Carragher on the appointment: “A proper local club”
Regarding the move to Marine, Carragher confirms that he has been following the club’s development from the sidelines, and that he hopes to be able to support them going forward.
“Marine is a real local football club with good people involved and a clear vision for where they want to go. I have enjoyed following the progress the club has made in recent years and I am pleased to be able to support the club in an advisory role going forward,” Carragher said.
A new path for Carragher?
This is no doubt an interesting new role for Carragher, who has so far mainly spent his non-playing career behind the microphone as a commentator.
The former Liverpool defender may be following a similar path to his good friend Gary Neville, who is one of the owners of Salford City.
Whether Carragher will eventually take ownership remains to be seen, but it looks like he has now taken his first step back into football from a professional standpoint.
