It’s not small money Marcus Rashford brings in already, about 14 million euros, but in a few days it could increase sharply.

Manchester United have painted themselves into a corner and are working hard to agree on Marcus Rashford’s exit.

Manchester United want to strike a deal that sends Marcus Rashford out of the club as soon as possible in the summer – before his wages skyrocket as a result of Champions League qualification.

Manchester United’s strong form under Michael Carrick has sent them to the top of the race for a place in Europe’s premier competition. They are currently third in the Premier League, eight points ahead of sixth-placed Brighton, and look set to be back in the Champions League for the first time in two seasons.

Rashford is going away – before the pay rise

Rashford will leave Old Trafford in the summer. As a presenter on Football Insider’s “Transfer Insider” podcast, United want to get him off the salary budget as soon as possible – before his salary increases after UCL qualification.

The problem is that Barcelona are hesitant to buy the English star. Therefore, a quick deal when the transfer window opens would be a huge relief for United’s transfer plans.

Rashford wants to stay at Barcelona

Rashford has made it abundantly clear that he wants to stay at Camp Nou after this season as well. But the Catalan giants would rather strike a new loan deal than trigger the £26m purchase clause.

United could be forced to accept these terms if they want the 28-year-old out of the squad quickly enough to avoid a wage increase in the summer.

Rashford’s league stats over the last five seasons:

  • 2025/26 (La Liga): 27 games, 6 goals, 6 assists
  • 2024/25 (Premier League): 25 games, 6 goals, 3 assists
  • 2023/24 (Premier League): 33 games, 7 goals, 2 assists
  • 2022/23 (Premier League): 35 games, 17 goals, 5 assists
  • 2021/22 (Premier League): 25 games, 4 goals, 2 assists

“Rashford wants to stay at Camp Nou because he has found his way back to great form this season. If he doesn’t get a deal at Barcelona, he will have to go back to Manchester United. United are of course more than happy to let him on to get him off the wage budget this summer – because his salary will increase if they qualify for the Champions League.

United could pressure Nottingham Forest to sell Morgan Gibbs-White

Gibbs-White is one of the Premier League’s most in-form players right now, with five goals and one assist in the last three games for Forest.

The English playmaker was close to becoming a Tottenham player last summer before signing a new contract at the City Ground. Despite the contract extension, he is still being linked with a summer transfer.

Sources have exclusively told Football Insider that Manchester United could get on the pitch for Gibbs-White – if Forest are open to sale in the summer.

He thrives at Forest and will stay if the team stays in the top division. But the Red Devils may make an offer that is too good to refuse.
