The Athletic makes a very surprising announcement today given the short time the “dream sporting director” of the new Manchester United has only been in the job for five months. – It was so important for Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s people to bring Dan Ashworth in that they chose to first announce that they wanted him and then after arguing with his then employer Newcastle agreed to a buyout.
In a remarkable way, Dan Ashworth left his position as sporting director at Newcastle to take a similar position at Manchester United.

It was on July 1 that Manchester United confirmed the deal, and it came after Ashworth was on “garden leave” at “The Magpies” for an extended period, meaning he was stripped of his duties pending a breakup. At Manchester United, he was involved in the signings of Joshua Zirkzee, Manuel Ugarte, Leny Yoro, Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt, among others.
Ashworth has been employed at Manchester United for around five months. Now The Athletic reports that Ashworth is leaving his position and the decision was made after an agreement with CEO Omar Berrada on Saturday.
It is Manchester United who initiated the separations, although the club’s official explanation will be that it is a mutual breakup. The information also says that it is co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe who asked to break the agreement with Ashworth.
Manchester United are in 13th place in the Premier League. Yesterday, Saturday, the team lost to Nottingham Forest 3-2.
