Manchester United were among the clubs represented at the Allianz Arena on Saturday during Bayern Munich’s big clash against Borussia Dortmund. “Their focus was on the away team.
United sent scouts to assess up to four Dortmund players, putting striker Serhou Guirassy, midfielder Jobe Bellingham, Felix Nmecha and left-back Daniel Svensson all on their radar ahead of the winter window.
Within three days, the Ligue 1 club is without a coach, sporting director and president!
Guirassy, Bellingham and Nmecha are long-term targets for United, who have continued to follow the trio throughout the season.
All three started in Munich and played significant roles in helping Dortmund secure a 2-2 draw, which keeps them safe in the Bundesliga title race – tied on points with Bayern. Guirassy remains a particularly attractive option as Manchester United assess their long-term plans at the striker position.
The Guinean international is considered a type of experienced striker who can bolster their offensive options, although it is considered very difficult and unlikely to get him away from Dortmund.
The same goes for Bellingham and Nmecha, with United well aware of the challenge of trying to secure one of the midfielders from the German club – and both carry high price tags.
Manchester United are considering a move for Daniel Svensson
We can also confirm that United have been working on Svensson, who has emerged as a potential target in recent months.
The 24-year-old Swedish left-back is on the club’s list of options when considering how they can strengthen their position towards 2027.
United’s desire to bring in a new left-back is nothing new. They pursued a deal for Newcastle’s Lewis Hall in the summer, but were ultimately unable to bring him in.
Hall is still highly admired by United, but has since signed a new Newcastle contract, which has led the club to explore options.
Although Svensson is being followed along with the three Dortmund stars, any possible transfer is considered more of a possibility for the summer than the January window.
Whether United choose to wait until next summer to bring in a left-back, or if they buy another goal in January, remains to be seen. However, the scouting presence in Munich was not limited to United.
Almost all major European clubs had representatives at the match, which underlines the interest in the players on display.
Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur were among the Premier League teams also in attendance, along with leading clubs from across Europe.
