One of Sir Alex Ferguson’s most disappointing signings has found a new club. After months as a free agent, Bebé is moving to CD Teruel – who are at the bottom of the Spanish third division.
Since the turn of the century, Manchester United have made some questionable signings, and Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement made this a real problem. This summer’s recruitment for the Red Devils has not been well received by anyone at the club. Michael Carrick and his squad spoke throughout the summer about the need for more recruits, while Lisandro Martínez complained bitterly after the club’s loss to Como about the lack of quality that had been signed.
Martin Ødegaard sunk hard-hitting Tigers – Arsenal alone on top
Now, one of the club’s biggest failures has found a new club after several months without an employer – he is to join a team in the Spanish third division.
Sir Alex Ferguson did his share of bad signings
Ferguson made his share of poor signings during his time as club manager, despite leading United to incredible success both domestically and on the continent. Notorietically, he brought Juan Sebastián Verón, Eric Djemba-Djemba, Kleberson and David Bellion to Old Trafford.
However, none of them were considered the biggest failure after ESPN conducted a survey among fans. It was confirmed that Bebé was the biggest failure to represent the Red Devils.
Ferguson signed Bebé from Vitória de Guimarães for a reported sum of around £7.4 million – beating Real Madrid and Benfica in the battle for his signature in August 2010.
He eventually left United for Benfica after four disappointing years in England, where he only made seven appearances.
Rebuilt his career in Spain
Bebé would spend time building his career again. That required him to go to La Liga, where he impressed for both Rayo Vallecano and Eibar.
Now, after months without a club after leaving UD Ibiza at the end of last season, he has moved to CD Teruel – who are at the bottom of the Spanish third division.
They will be hoping that the Cape Verde international can make a significant impact in helping them maintain their position in the division. After ten games, they have only secured six points.
Half of those who are above the brilliant Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on the wish list are gone
