Italian goalkeeper Dino Zoff stayed on until he was over 40 years old. With Zoff between the sticks, Italy beat Spain in the 1982 World Cup final, and Zoff shattered the record for the oldest FIFA World Cup winner. Now the 40-year-old Manuel Neuer has not been able to lift the World Cup trophy yet, but where Zoff stopped on 17 World Cup games, Neuer stands after Saturday’s game with 21 World Cup games played as a goalkeeper.

Hugo Lloris stopped at 20 World Cup games, so now Neuer stands alone at the top of this historic goalkeeper throne.
And there will be more. Germany will play Ecuador in the group stage, nothing indicates that Julian Nagelsmann will bench his goalkeeping legend.
