First a 4-1 loss to Como in the Champions League, then an even heavier 0-3 loss at Old Trafford against Bournemouth. Not surprisingly, this weekend’s game has affected Michael Carrick, but it is a wonderful offensive Carrick who does not spend calories securing guarantees from the management of peace of mind, he only focuses on what matters.

“Dealing with it (the loss to Bournemouth) is the most important thing. What could we have done better, what can we improve, what can we make a difference with? Then it’s about focusing on getting back on the training ground with the players and preparing for the next game, against Chelsea, and a really big week ahead. That’s been my main focus,” Carrick begins.

Chasing assurances from the INEOS gang, he doesn’t spend time on that.

“I don’t need any assurances from anybody. I fully understand the situation, I understand the job, I understand the responsibility, I understand what comes with it. So I really don’t need any assurances from anyone when it comes to that,” the United manager said.

Then came the question from a journalist whether Carrick “was surprised that he still has the job as United manager” (yep, silly question).

–No. I’m here to do my job. I’m here to do the best for the team and I’m desperate to make us better and improve things. So I’m not surprised, no,” says Michael Carrick.

At Old Trafford at the weekend, Carrick received supportive applause from the home supporters, while the players and Bruno Fernandes were blown out in the dressing room by boos from their own supporters. Michael Carrick stands well in the storm – and knows it could all be over on Saturday – if he loses to Xabi Alonso.

But he doesn’t bother to give a thought. He goes out to Stamford Bridge to get the best out of the players – to victory.
