Arsenal are still keeping tabs on a Newcastle star who the Magpies are reluctant to sell in 2027 – but only if one condition is met.

Arsenal’s strength under Mikel Arteta lies in defence and midfield, but that doesn’t stop the Gunners boss from wanting even more at the back. Both Christian Falk and Dean Jones have confirmed that Arteta wants a new defender brought in in 2027.

Yet another one who doesn’t want Manchester United the job without power

Arsenal and Manchester City kept a close eye on Newcastle’s Tino Livramento this summer. The right-back is among the Premier League’s best in his position when he is injury-free, and Newcastle are well aware of the calibre they have.

Newcastle would demand a world-record amount for right-backs if they eventually sell. The current record is held by Achraf Hakimi through his £58 million transfer to PSG in 2021.

Livramento’s injury history – he missed time last season with knee, thigh and hamstring problems – meant that Arsenal and Man City eventually refrained from striking at the high price tag. Livramento has again been plagued by knee problems this season. But the interest from Arsenal and Manchester City has not gone away.

Newcastle sell Livramento in 2027 – on one condition

Newcastle are also reluctant to give the green light for Livramento’s sale next summer if they fail to commit the defender to a new contract by then.

Livramento’s current deal expires in 2028, meaning he only has one year left on his contract next summer. Naturally, that would lead to Arsenal and/or City trying to negotiate a lower price considering Newcastle’s weakened negotiating position.

Football Insider’s reporter Pete O’Rourke explained: “Arsenal and Manchester City are both following Newcastle United’s right-back Tino Livramento at the moment. Both are long-time admirers of the 23-year-old, and they have continued to ‘monitor’ him this season. Livramento’s long-term future at Newcastle is starting to come under scrutiny, with his current contract expiring in the summer of 2028.

“Sources say that the Magpies will reluctantly try to sell the England international next summer if they fail to make progress towards a new deal between now and then.”

For now, Newcastle’s aim is to agree new terms with Livramento, and they have about eight months to do so before it’s time to reluctantly cash in.
