Newcastle United have appointed Matthias Jaissle as the club’s new manager – after Eddie Howe left the job at the end of last month.
The 38-year-old Jaissle was mentioned as the new boss on the same day as the first news of Howe’s resignation came.

“When Newcastle United knock on the door, you listen. The club’s ambitions, vision for the future and the opportunities that lie ahead make this an incredibly exciting place to be,” Jaissle said in a statement on Newcastle’s website.
From Salzburg to Asia – and now Newcastle
Jaissle’s playing career took place mostly at Hoffenheim, where he was a defender. His coaching career started at Liefering in 2021, before quickly taking over for Jesse Marsch at Red Bull Salzburg. There, he led the team to the Champions League group stage for the first time, winning the Austrian Bundesliga both seasons he was there.
He then went to Al-Ahli, where he won the Asian Champions League Elite twice in a row.

Tough start with key players on their way out
Newcastle have four friendlies in the next 12 days – against Valencia, Everton, Bayer Leverkusen and Strasbourg – before the Premier League opener at home to Liverpool on August 23.
Jaissle and his new club have a lot to do to get started quickly. Newcastle look set to lose Bruno Guimarães to Arsenal, having already sold Sandro Tonali to Tottenham and Anthony Gordon to Barcelona.
