We remember when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was spotted at the match between Ipswich and Wolverhampton, and rumours gained momentum that the United legend was on his way in as Wolves manager. Certainly entertaining for Solskjaer, who was at the game to catch former United assistant and friend, Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich. This time it is McKenna who is at the centre of new rumours.
McKenna was linked with Manchester United before the 2023/24 season, but the former United assistant coach was fully focused on Ipswich anyway. There had been promotion, then relegation, last season Ipswich played their way back to the top division. In the summer, McKenna chose it as good timing to step down as Ipswich coach.

On Wednesday, McKenna was spotted at Old Trafford, the Mirror and the BBC reported. And where was McKenna sitting? In the director’s box, of course.
Here he got to see a United that pulled away with two goals in ten minutes against Brighton in the League Cup – before Brighton went on with a long sprint and won 2-3.
McKenna had five years at Manchester United and has a high star in the management. When this guy is placed in the big boss box, many have seen it as a reminder to Michael Carrick of what might await if United’s play continues as it did for the first month and a half.

It is hardly a coincidence that three months after the Ipswich exit and a longer holiday, McKenna is placed “in full view” in the manager’s box when things have gone awry for United.
