There were probably several Arsenal supporters who were stunned, when it became known that the club brought in a Premier League captain last summer. Christian Nørgaard had led Brentford as captain since 2023 and was Thomas Frank’s undisputed leader out in the match arena as a defensive midfielder. What Arsenal supporters were surprised by was that the Gunners already had Declan Rice, at the same time as they signed Martin Zubimendi a month earlier. Changes are now being reported.

Nørgaard probably knew what he was getting into, from his captaincy at Brentford to trying to establish himself in the star-studded midfield of title contenders Arsenal, but not that he would play his way to a measly 56 minutes in the Premier League arena in his debut season.

The contract runs until 2027 with an option to extend for another year, but now it is heading towards an unplanned exit for the Dane.
