It took a while for João Neves to settle in the French capital after his €65 million + transfer from Benfica in the summer of 2024. The experience of winning the Champions League two years in a row and playing for the world’s best football coach leaves you wanting more, despite the offer of both more money and bigger leagues than Ligue 1.

Now he is closing the door on a PSG exit – will stay in Paris for the rest of his career.

The Portuguese midfield star was sought after by the world’s biggest clubs. Now he has made it crystal clear: He will not leave the Parc des Princes. – Preferably never!

João Neves (22) has sent a clear signal to all clubs who may be wondering if he is available. In an interview with Canal+ France on Tuesday, the Portuguese stated that he has no plans to swap Paris Saint-Germain for Spain or England – on the contrary, he wants to spend his entire career in the French capital.

“I really enjoy it here and my big goal is to continue to win trophies with Luis Enrique’s team,” Neves said.

The statements put a solid damper on the transfer rumours that have swirled around the midfielder, who has a contract with PSG until June 2031.

Wants to end his career in Paris

The future of the Portuguese international seems to be closely linked to Paris for many years to come. Neves is not considering a change of club, and believes the conditions are in place to continue his development where he is.

When Canal+ asked him directly about the possibility of playing in Spain or England sometime in the future, the answer was just as direct: It is not one of his goals to try his luck in either of the two leagues.

Neves stressed that the most important thing for him is to have a good time – both personally and professionally – and to continue winning titles with PSG. He even admitted that he would like to stay at the club throughout his sporting career.

Contract extension gives PSG peace of mind

The signals come just two months after Neves extended his contract until 2031. The club officially announced the extension on September 4, securing the midfielder for the next five seasons.

The contract situation gives the sports management of PSG a long-awaited calm. The club does not have to negotiate a new extension in the short term, and can count on the Portuguese to want to continue to be part of the project.

Luis Enrique – a key figure for Neves

Luis Enrique’s future is also important for the midfielder’s development. The Spanish coach, who has a contract until 2030, has made Neves a permanent fixture in midfield since joining from Benfica in 2024.

PSG paid around €70 million to sign him two seasons ago. Since then, Neves has helped win two Champions League titles in a row, as well as several national trophies.

When the club announced the latest extension, they highlighted that the Portuguese had reached 100 official games, with 14 goals and 14 assists. The numbers testify to an increasingly offensive role in the Parisian system.

In fact, the player himself recently revealed that Luis Enrique had set him a goal of reaching 10 goals and 10 assists this season. The coach simply believes that his midfielders should be present in the opponent’s field.

No Spain dream for Neves

The possibility of playing in Spain does not seem to be part of the Portuguese’s immediate plans. At 22, he still has five seasons left on his contract, and has shown no interest in negotiating an exit.

His position is also a clear message to clubs considering signing him: PSG have both the contract protection and the player’s will on their side.

For now, Joao Neves’ next goal is to meet Luis Enrique’s offensive demands in the 2026/2027 season. The contract until 2031 guarantees that any departure before that time will have to be negotiated with the French club.
