Jose Mourinho is on his way to Real Madrid, Paul Pogba is doing everything he can to recover from injuries, doping quarantine and declining playing form. In 2018, they were both at Manchester United, where manager Mourinho and United’s most expensive player, Pogba, had their matches. Now the Frenchman talks about a situation that was blown up big in the media, but which turned out to be due to poor phone coverage.

Pogba tells ESPN Medio about the altercation with Mourinho in 2018 after a city derby.

“With Mourinho … even today, when I see him again, we laugh about it,” Pogba begins.

“But there was this moment after a cup game where I didn’t play. We won 1-0 at half-time, and I put out a celebration when the team scored.”

“The thing is, in some stadiums there was no signal, so I didn’t realize that the video hadn’t been uploaded to Instagram yet. Sometimes you have to leave the stadium and repost it for it to go through. So as soon as I left the stadium, I hit load again.”

“But the coach saw it later – after the game, when we ended up losing to Derby.”

“So afterwards he was waiting for me outside where the cameras were. And I came in, you know me, smiling and saying hello to everyone.” Then I go to greet him, and he looks at me and says, “You … You were against us. You were glad we lost.”

“And I look at him and think, ‘What are you talking about?’

“He says, ‘You posted a video when we lost.’

“I said, ‘No! I put it out when we scored.”

“Even I was confused. I was with Luke Shaw and Andreas Pereira, and I’m like, ‘What is he really talking about?’

“Then Mourinho yells at the media guy: ‘Paul posted this, right?'”

“The guy says, ‘yes, he posted a video.’

“You said, ‘Yes, a video of the goal!’

“And the guy repeats, ‘Yes, he posted a video of the goal.’

“Then Mourinho looks at him like this, and basically says: ‘Well, why did you tell me all this?’

“And because there were cameras there, the whole thing became public knowledge, even though there was really nothing wrong. I had done nothing wrong.”
