Philippe Coutinho will have three months in Santos to try and play as many games as possible – and to decide whether to retire or resume his football career. He left Vasco in February this year, and since then he has been clubless and kept fit physically at home.

Coutinho, on the other hand, can use the period to enjoy football with friends like Neymar, without being bound to renew his contract until 2027, and to see if he is willing to continue playing longer after an emotionally demanding period at Cruz-Maltino.
In this three-month period, Santos will play the last rounds of two tournaments: the conclusion of the Brasileirão, with the final round scheduled for December 2, and the Copa Sudamericana, which has the final scheduled for November 21. Currently, Cuca’s team plays the quarter-finals against Atlético-MG.
At the same time, the parties agree that the period will be challenging for both sides: Coutinho’s long period without games will require patience from Santos for him to find his rhythm again. The midfielder, on the other hand, will also have to put in an effort to get back to his best level.
Santos’ board even considered a contract related to productivity, but withdrew the demand after Coutinho lowered his wage demands.
Arthur, Lima and Everton Cebolinha were brought in according to a similar model, with a contract until December. Of the trio, only the former Flamengo striker has the option of renewal for another two years in the deal.
The only one of the five reinforcements in the transfer window with a longer contract is Rodinei, who signed a contract until December 2027.
