Mauricio Pochettino was brought in as Tottenham manager in 2014. The Argentine bundle of energy led a young Spurs squad to the Premier League title race in the 2016/17 season, but had to see themselves beaten by Chelsea by seven points. Now Pochettino believes Tottenham must be awarded this Premier League trophy, over ten years later.
Chelsea have been fined and banned from transfer due to payments to agents, third parties and offshore companies that were not reported correctly in the club’s official accounts while Abramovich was the owner. For Pochettino, this was anti-competitive and denied Tottenham the title.

“We should have been awarded it (the title). If that’s right, and that’s what happened, then we definitely deserved to be champions that year. Because we were the second best team,” Pochettino continues, according to The Athletic.
“But if we had been at Tottenham and broken the rules, I would admit the same thing and say we don’t deserve the title because we broke the rules. It doesn’t make sense if some clubs play with the offside rule while others play without offside. Or if one team plays with VAR while another plays without VAR. The rules should be the same for everyone and everyone should have the opportunity to create the best team possible,” Pochettino concluded.
