Bartosz Losiak and Michal Bryl, Polish beach volleyball representatives, have just made history. The duo won Poland’s first ever beach volleyball world championship medal. In the decisive match of the world championships, Losiak and Bryl won the bronze medal! Bryl was also the second best scorer of the tournament!
The Beach Volleyball World Championships in Tlaxcala, Mexico, are coming to an end. Michal Bryl and Bartosz Losiak, who represented Poland at these championships, return home with a bronze medal! This is the first time in Polish history when Poles stand on the podium of the beach volleyball world championship.
So far, Poles have reached the quarterfinals of the event the furthest. Interestingly, the Polish duo started in the championship with number 11. Thanks to defeating the Americans in the bronze medal match, the Poles will advance and will be significantly closer to qualifying for the Olympic Games in Paris.
The Americans started the match for the bronze medal well, but Losiak and Bryl overtook their rivals at 7:7 and did not give up the lead until the very end of the set, winning 21:17. The second set looked similar, with the Poles winning 21:18, after which they threw themselves into each other’s arms and celebrated winning the bronze medal at the Beach Volleyball World Championships.
The Poles were one point away from fighting for the gold medal, instead of the bronze. They lost the semi-final only in the tie-break. Michal Bryl provided the duo with a point worth the bronze medal. Bryl turned out to be the second highest scorer of the tournament, scoring a total of 186 points at this championship.
-We are very happy. We played very good volleyball from the beginning to the end – said Bartosz Losiak later.
