We said it after the Arsenal game. Chelsea’s extremely attacking football is brilliant – as long as the opponents don’t score more during the game. On Saturday we saw it again, where Xabi Alonso’s men, unlike last season, put in one goal after another. Now Alonso wants a more “boring football”.
Because it ended 2-2 against Hull City at Stamford Bridge. One point at home for Chelsea against the Premier League newcomer is two lost.
In Alonso’s first four Premier League games as Chelsea manager, there have been 10 goals, but also 9 backwards.
“Yes, it can be entertaining, but I hope that one day you (journalists) can say that it was a boring game where we won and where we didn’t give you all these entertaining moments,” Alonso begins, according to Football-London.
“We repeat some of the same mistakes. It will take time to correct them, but when we get ahead, we still have to be sharp and not give the opponent the opportunity to get back in the game so easily,” the Spaniard continues.
“Especially with the first goal, we can do much better. We made it too easy for them and gave them hope. Up until then, we were in control of the game and creating chances, but the momentum we had suddenly changed the dynamics of the game and the result. It’s something we have to talk about and work on, and we probably want to get better,” Alonso concludes.
Okay, then Alonso hopes for “more boring football” – and fewer backwards.
