Raheem Sterling faces a potential prison sentence of two years after being charged with three counts.
The 31-year-old, who is currently clubless after leaving Feyenoord in the summer, could end up in prison if he is convicted of dangerous driving and drug offences following a motorway crash in May.

Sterling – one of Europe’s most admired wingers in his glory days at Liverpool and Manchester City – was arrested near an exit in Farnborough after a £270,000 Lamborghini was spotted swerving violently across the M3 motorway just before 09:00.
Police confirmed that a 31-year-old Berkshire man was “arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, dangerous driving, possession of Class C drugs, and refusing to provide a test.”
An eyewitness described what he saw, and dash cam footage of the 4×4 swerving across the motorway in Hampshire was also made public by the Daily Mail.
Sterling will appear in court on September 15
Sterling has now been charged and will appear before the court in Basingstoke on September 15, the police say.
A spokesperson for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary says:
“A driver will appear in court next month to answer charges after a collision on the M3.
– Raheem Sterling, 31, from Berkshire, is charged with the following counts: dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for illegal inhalation, and refusal to provide a sample.
“The charges come after a single-car accident, involving a Lamborghini, on the M3 southbound near the Minley exit on May 28, 2026.
“No other vehicles were involved, and no injuries have been reported.
“Sterling is due to appear in Basingstoke magistrates court on September 15.
Sterling has had a tough time – ‘felt worthless’
Sterling has had several difficult years in professional football. He was thrown out of Chelsea and also failed in a loan spell at Arsenal. The move to Feyenoord gave him a fresh start and the opportunity to get his career on track – but the former England international only played eight games in the Eredivisie and did not score any goals.
A source close to Sterling stated that the 82-cap’s old star has been made to feel “worthless”.
“He was a high-profile international who lifted England to great heights in the last decade – and has been treated as worthless,” the source said.
“The mental strain it has caused him is enormous. He feels isolated.
“Every time he touches a ball, he is told that he is a failure and that he is finished. He has been mocked and ridiculed.
“He moved to the Netherlands to get away and rediscover his love for football. But negativity followed. It has been extremely tough.
