An urgent press conference has been called at the Santiago Bernabéu, so things are going to happen very quickly.

As many as nine Real Madrid players are reportedly set to leave the club in the summer, as future manager José Mourinho (99.9% certainty) looks set to rebuild the team after a terrible 2025/26 season.

Despite manager Álvaro Arbeloa still in position, the fate seems to be sealed for the former Real Madrid right-back, as the Whites failed to win a single major trophy for the second season in a row.

Jose Mourinho has not won the Champions League with Real Madrid, that is something he wants to correct.

Last week was definitely one to forget for Florentino Pérez and co., as Fede Valverde was taken to hospital for treatment of a cut to his head following a confrontation with teammate Aurélien Tchouaméni. The Uruguayan’s injury meant he had to sit out El Clásico’s 2-0 loss to Barcelona at Camp Nou, where the Catalans were crowned league champions with three league rounds left to play.

On Tuesday, May 12, it was reported across the board that Mourinho was in “final negotiations” to become Real boss for the second time – he previously coached the club between 2010 and 2013 – despite having a contract at his current club, Benfica, until June 2027. However, it is believed that there is a £2.6 million breach clause that can be triggered within ten days of the final game of the season.

Mourinho prepares massive purge at Real Madrid

According to reports from Spanish newspaper ABC, it looks like the Real squad could look very different once Mourinho has familiarised himself with the club.

The newspaper claims that up to nine players will either be sold, loaned out or leave for free at the end of this season.

Veteran defenders David Alaba and Dani Carvajal are expected to leave the club when their contracts expire in the summer, while midfielder Dani Ceballos is seen as redundant and is likely to be sold on.

Argentine talent Franco Mastantuono, who joined from River Plate in 2025, is likely to be loaned out. The Whites also want to cash in on Eduardo Camavinga, Raúl Asencio, Gonzalo García and Fran García.

Reserve goalkeeper Andriy Lunin could also leave if there is a good enough offer for the Ukrainian national team goalkeeper.

Mourinho also wants to bring his own staff with him, but Real will probably give him an assistant coach from within the club.

Goalkeeper coach Luis Llopis, medical director Niko Mihic and fitness coach Antonio Pintus all have Pérez’s full confidence and are likely to become part of Mourinho’s support staff.
