Schjelderup has previously been linked with Barcelona and Liverpool, but this week there are strong signals from Portugal that Tottenham are expected to make a move. – They finally want to put in place a worthy successor to Son Heung-min who is not thriving in MLS.

But the sum that Tottenham attempted with 40 million euros is far below what Benfica are demanding after excellent play in the World Cup. Even if Roma want Schjelderup, they are probably too late and showed up to the race with too thin a wallet.

Roma are chasing Norwegian World Cup profile – Schjelderup high on wish list

Roma are desperately looking for offensive reinforcements, and according to transfer journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, they have now opened their eyes to Andreas Schjelderup (22).

The Norwegian World Cup profile and Benfica winger has reportedly climbed heavily on the Italian giant’s wish list lately. Especially after the 22-year-old delivered two assists and a dream goal in Norway’s last two World Cup games – against Brazil and England – the Bodø native has suddenly become a very hot candidate at Roma.

According to sporting director Tony D’Amico, the Serie A giant is looking for two new players, something coach Gian Piero Gasperini has been clear that he wants. Schjelderup seems to fit perfectly into that profile.

Several alternatives have dropped out

Roma were earlier this summer interested in Mason Greenwood (24). But they never made a bid for the Englishman until he was sold from Marseille to Turkish side Fenerbahce. Dutchman Crysencio Summerville (24) has also been highly rated, but Roma have not received a response from owner club West Ham.

In addition, Roma have kept an eye on Chelsea’s Alejandro Garnacho (22), but even there it has not led to anything concrete.

Schjelderup sails up

While the other alternatives have faded away, Schjelderup has emerged as an increasingly relevant name. With his performances in the World Cup, he has put himself on the map for real – and Roma seem to have been bitten by the bug.

Now it remains to be seen if the Italian big club follows up the interest with a concrete offer before the transfer window slams shut. One thing is certain: Schjelderup’s price is rising, and he has the chance to be the next Norwegian in Serie A.

The latest rumour surrounding Tottenham and a possible Andreas Schjelderup transfer is that the London club are working on a new and improved bid, but probably not quite the 80 million euros that Benfica are demanding.
