It started well, and the Chelsea supporters pointed their noses at the Man United supporters. Jadon Sancho didn’t spend many weeks doing more good in a Chelsea shirt than he had done in several seasons in a United shirt. The English media called it a warp, where Chelsea at the end of the season could exercise a favorable purchase option on the 24-year-old and secure a permanent transfer. Heading into the latter part of the season, this could prove to be an expensive affair for the London club, but not as expensive as continuing to invest in the winger.

2 goals and 6 assists in 28 games. For Jadon Sancho, this is a step up from what he has delivered in England since 2021, but for Chelsea, the lack of production in front of the opponents’ goal is precisely what Chelsea cannot have in the squad. Last week came the confirmation that Chelsea have signed 17-year-old Quenda from Sporting, where the winger will join Stamford Bridge after the season.

With this, signing Jadon Sancho for up to £25 million seems like an illogical signing. Although the purchase price seemed like “a theft”, as Sancho showed the rhythms of his Dortmund era, the 24-year-old has partially punctured in the last month, anything but a good sign of his capacity and focus over time.

This month, several English media have speculated about how much Chelsea will have to pay United if they withdraw from the purchase obligation/option. The Athletic has now sniffed out the amount.

The English media claims Chelsea can buy out of the deal and send Sancho back to Old Trafford for £5 million.

An insane amount of money to send a player out of the squad, but £25 million invested in Sancho on a permanent transfer with the 24-year-old’s expectations of a mega salary, now seems illogical. Especially after Quenda is brought to Stamford Bridge.

Jadon Sancho has a contract with Manchester United until 2026, and rakes in a weekly wage as one of United’s highest-paid players. If the 24-year-old is sent back to United, 5 million euros in compensation will be small money compared to the problems this causes.
