Confirmed: Djurgården brings in Norwegian sensation from third division
Djurgården strikes with a transfer no one saw coming. The club has brought in Sander Finjord Ringberg – straight from the Norwegian third division.

The 26-year-old has delivered assists on a continuous basis for Hönefoss this year, and it has not gone unnoticed by the Stockholm club. Now he is ready for Allsvenskan football – and for one of Sweden’s biggest teams.
“I was a little surprised”
Ringberg has signed a long-term contract that lasts until the end of 2031. And he does not hide the fact that he had envisioned a different way into the elite series.
“It feels absolutely fantastic to sign for such a big club with such a passionate fan base,” he said in a statement.
“I was a little surprised when I heard about the interest – but at the same time not. I’ve had a good season, and I think the Allsvenskan will suit me very well.
According to Norwegian TV 2, Djurgården’s purchase of Ringberg is one of the biggest transfers ever from the Norwegian third division.
A “Swiss army knife” on the field
Ringberg is primarily a winger – but far from just that.
“I thrive best on the wing, but can also go into the field. It’s not my thing to show off my skills – I go straight to the finish line,” he says.
Maximilian Hahn, head of football at Djurgården, is clearly excited about the new addition:
“Sander has a unique and outstanding data profile, which has made him one of our foremost transfer targets. Signing a player with his qualities was an obvious choice for us.
“He’s a bit of a Swiss army knife on the pitch – he can play in all positions in attack and in midfield, whether it’s central, on the wing or as a defensive midfielder,” Hahn adds.
Vecchia finished at MFF
The same evening that Ringberg was ready for Djurgården, the news also came that Stefano Vecchia is leaving Malmö FF. The contract is broken in advance, and the 31-year-old is now finished in sky blue.
Vecchia came to MFF from Rosenborg in 2023 and helped win two Swedish Championship golds and one cup gold. But major injury problems in the last 1.5 years have made the club now choose to move on.
“Stefano was a key player during the golden season in 2023 and has always been a professional. But he needs playing time, and we can’t give him that right now, says sports director Philip Berglund.
Vecchia himself says thank you:
“I’m grateful for all the good experiences, new friends and people I’ve met along the way. Thank you to everyone who has supported me through the tougher periods,” he says.
