I don’t understand why this is news, but since everyone else is writing about it, we in Sporten.com can’t be any worse. For those who are not aware, Stig Inge Bjørnebye has almost a decade as a Liverpool player and 75 caps for Norway.
These days, he works as an advisor to the Danish club Rangers. It is not so strange to ask the 56-year-old football profile about what is going on in Liverpool and with their biggest star Mohamed Salah, but that it will be a big deal of it is surprising.

Well, here it is!
Stig Inge Bjørnebye wonders about Mohamed Salah
“I don’t know what Mo’s plans are, but we have actually discussed the matter at work today.
He is now an advisor at Rangers – and the idea of signing the world star has surfaced.
After nine years at Liverpool, Mohamed Salah will leave without a contract in the summer. The Egyptian icon status is ready for new challenges, and all over Europe there is speculation about what his next stop will be.
In Glasgow, too, they have noticed.
Bjørnebye, who himself has a past as a Liverpool player, tells Modern MTI – as quoted by the Liverpool Echo:
“I don’t know Mo’s plans, but we’ve talked about it internally today. With us at Rangers. We actually discussed possible destinations for him.
“I think most people are eternally grateful for what he has done for Liverpool. He is a real legend there, and he has built a formidable reputation at one of the biggest clubs in the world. Season after season, he has delivered fantastic results.
“I think most people can accept that he has given Liverpool many magical years, and that he now wants something new. A new adventure,” says Stig Inge Bjørnebye.
The Norwegian with a past at Liverpool, Blackburn, Norwegian and Danish football
The 56-year-old from Elverum managed to play a total of 184 games for Liverpool in his active career. He has also been at Brøndby – but since the end of 2025 he has worked as an advisor at Rangers. From 2021 to 2025, he was sports director at AGF.
Salah’s tally: 257 goals in 439 games
Mohamed Salah has a staggering 257 goals and 122 assists in 439 appearances for Liverpool.
No one knows yet where the trip will go – but the question from Glasgow hangs in the air:
Can he end up in the Rangers? – Well the answer to that is no!.
I for my part think Mohamed Salah would have stayed if Arne Slot had been fired.
