In the spring of 2025, what was to be the summer’s most chaotic and historically expensive transition began. Liverpool had decided to follow up what would become the Premier League title, by signing the Premier League’s second highest scoring player, Alexander Isak. The Swede pushed for the exit of Newcastle, and the process became chaotic, dirty and resulted in a really bad atmosphere between Isak and Newcastle. It was therefore “comfortable” to follow Gordon Antony’s exit, which was confirmed even before the transfer window opens.

Isak arrived at Liverpool completely unprepared at the beginning of September 2025, where his recent time at Newcastle was marked by arguments and boycotts. When Gordon leaves Newcastle, he is hailed by an obviously disappointed but respectful Eddie Howe.

After 152 games, 39 goals and 28 assists, Anthony Gordon leaves the Premier League club for Barcelona. The attacking midfielder was presented with a five-year contract with the Spanish giant on Friday night, and Newcastle manager Howe allows himself to be proud.

“We are obviously disappointed to lose Anthony, but we also understand that this is a great opportunity for him. He has been an important part of our success over the last few years and the fact that he developed into an England international during his time at Newcastle is a testament to the hard work he has put in, combined with the support of everyone at the club. He leaves the club with our best wishes, and I am convinced that he will be a success both at Barcelona and on the England national team in this year’s World Cup,” the head coaches told the club’s website.
