Newcastle, Juventus, Manchester United, Chelsea, Galatasaray. For the past two years, foreign media have linked Alexander Sørloth to a bunch of big clubs. This summer, a move to Serie A was particularly close, but the Norwegian striker still wears the Atletico Madrid shirt. Back from injury, the 30-year-old will now show he is still one of the goal kings in La Liga. Then comes a message that will help affect the working conditions in the Atletico shirt.
Next summer, Diego Simeone’s contract expires. Since 2012, the Argentine success coach has led the Madrid club to a controversially high level, which has given the club an almost guaranteed Champions League ticket and two La Liga titles. Simeone brought in Sørloth in 2024, and has since had a strange relationship with his Norwegian striker Viking.

In January 2026, Simeone stated about Sørltoh: He is in his best period since joining Atleti in terms of stability. He gives us so much with his diagonal runs, ability to hold on to the ball and important goals.”
This was followed by: “He gives the team exactly what it needed because he is different from the rest. When you have a strong player who pulls the team forward when we can’t find passing routes, that’s hugely valuable.”
Still, for big scorer Alexander Sørloth, it has been very variable with how much playing time he has received under Diego Simeone, the coach who loves his Norwegian striker.

Now it turns out that coach Simeone and Atletico are still not done with each other. According to Spanish AS, both parties want an extension of the contract, where it is expected that the parties will reach an agreement before the contract expires at the end of June next summer.
For Alexander Sørloth, this means that the coach who has given him the best working conditions on the pitch continues. How much working time on the pitch Sørloth will then get further, that is the big question. This can go both ways.
