Young William Saliba was not given the opportunity by Mikel Arteta, in the 2021/22 season the Frenchman took a loan at Marseille. Here it was an immediate success, the question was whether Saliba wanted to return to the bench at Arsenal. There was a return, but since then the bench for what has become one of the Premier League’s very best centre-backs has never been an issue. Saliba picked up a back injury in the World Cup and has been unavailable for Arteta on matchday. Now comes a very good message from Arsenal.

“His development has been as expected and that’s not always the case. Last week he played 45 minutes in a closed-door friendly and he feels ready to play,” the Arsenal manager began.
Arteta also explained that Saliba has built up the necessary physical capacity and is now ready to fight for a place in the team.
“Now he’s either in or not. He’s on an equal footing with everyone else, and all the preparation is in place. He’s in a very good place now,” Arteta reports.
