Atlético Madrid are in a good flow ahead of the meeting with Manchester United, who are struggling to win games on the day.

Atlético Madrid and Manchester United meet at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium on Tuesday night in the Champions League.

Both Real Madrid and FC Barcelona are sure they will be able to do what Liverpool can’t do

Diego Simeone’s side picked up their fourth straight win since defeating Liverpool by beating Alavés 2-1 in La Liga last weekend, while Michael Carrick is winless in his last four games after the 1-1 draw with Tottenham on Saturday night.

Both teams have some withdrawal decisions to make before the game, one of them is Alexander Sørloth who got his first minutes after injury in the last La Liga game, he came on after 73 minutes against Alavés and is likely to start on the bench today as well.

Atlético Madrid

Atlético Madrid will have a full squad to choose from for the visit against Manchester United on Tuesday, with no players reported to have injuries or suspensions.

Simeone will therefore be able to field his strongest team, which is likely to include Julián Álvarez, Ademola Lookman and Marc Pubill.

Simeone drops team news update

In his pre-match press conference, Simeone shared an update on the squad.

“No matter how many draws they have at the start of the season, it’s Manchester United we’re talking about. I expect an opponent who presses very well in our half, with fast players.

– Julián Álvarez’s lack of goals? Strikers always need goals, not just him. Beyond his finishing ability, he is a team player who fits well with his teammates and has many qualities. He played well on Saturday and hopefully he can reach the level we expect from him.

“Every player goes through different periods. No one maintains the same level all the time. Lookman is not at the level he wants or we want, but he works hard every day. He is a dribbler and he has to lose the ball sometimes. Baena, after a difficult season, has confidence and we have to make the most of it.

Atlético Madrid – Expected XI:

Oblak; Pubill, Romero, Hancko, Grimaldo; Simeone, Llorente, Koke, Baena; Lee, Álvarez.

Atlético Madrid – expected substitutes:

Musso (goalkeeper), Moreno (defence), Giménez (defence), Le Normand (defence), Frutos (centre), Hjulmand (centre), Cardoso (centre), Barrios (centre), Lookman (attack), Sørloth (centre), David (attack), Ortiz (attack).

Manchester United team news

Man Utd are struggling with several injuries after the international break, with Patrick Dorgu, Noussair Mazraoui and Benjamin Sesko all unavailable. Manuel Ugarte and Tom Heaton have been absent for a long time.

However, Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw were also absent from the final training session before the trip to Spain, and are now considered doubts for the match. Matthijs de Ligt was in first-team training, but it may be too early for him to play after back surgery. Carlos Baleba is pushing for his first start, after an impressive start on his debut at the weekend.

Manchester United – injuries:

Carrick drops team news update

In his pre-match press conference, Carrick shared an update on his team.

“They [Mainoo and Shaw] haven’t left. Both had problems in the game at the weekend, so they’re out.

“We don’t have a few numbers. It’s good for people like Dan [Armer] to try. He’s been here for a long time and has worked so hard to get to this stage.

“We’re still waiting this week to do some extra tests. We’ve got to make sure we’re doing the right things and getting Ben [Sesko] back, but I don’t have a timeframe for him.

Manchester United – expected XI:

Lammens; Yoro, Maguire, Martínez, Dalot; Tielemans, Baleba; Amad, Fernandes, Rashford; Mbeumo.

Man Utd – expected substitutes:

Darlow (goalkeeper), Heaven (defence), Amass (defence), Kamason (defence), De Ligt (defence), T. Fletcher (centre), J. Fletcher (centre), Andrey Santos (centre), Mount (centre), Cunha (attack), Zirkzee (attack), Lacey (attack).

With more defensive issues, Carrick could be forced to use Diogo Dalot at left-back, meaning Leny Yoro will continue at right-back. With Mainoo out of the game, Baleba should make his debut alongside Youri Tielemans, while Marcus Rashford could come in for former Atlético striker Matheus Cunha.

That could see the trio of Cunha, Mason Mount and Andrey Santos – worth £175 million – being benched, while youngsters Tyler Fletcher, Jack Fletcher, Harry Amass, Jaydan Kamason and Shea Lacey are also likely to feature.
