Tottenham find themselves in the middle of a relegation battle. Nevertheless, the recruitment team already has their eyes fixed on the summer transfer window, knowing that everything changes in the event of relegation.

The premise is simple but brutal: if Spurs survive in the Premier League, they will make sure that another nightmare season never happens again. And it starts with the signings they make.

Later today, Saturday, their “relegation mate” West Ham play away at St. James’ Park against Newcastle, which means that Tottenham can bet on the result of their game only on Tuesday. – They face Chelsea who are in the process of hiring Xabi Alonso at Stambord Brigde.

Several positions need to be strengthened – especially with players who are actually fit and can deliver great performances week after week.

Now, reports suggest that a missed transfer target from last year is back on the radar.

Why Tottenham want Morgan Gibbs-White

According to TeamTalk , Tottenham are one of several teams showing “sustained interest” in Morgan Gibbs-White – one year after he turned down a move to North London in favour of staying at Nottingham Forest.

Manchester United have also long admired the 26-year-old. But right now, everything seems to be pointing towards a new stay at the City Ground.

When Gibbs-White turned down Spurs last summer, he signed a new contract that runs until 2028. At the same time, a buyout clause was removed. And Forest should be far more relaxed about his future now.

In other words: It will hardly be easier to lure the playmaker away – especially not after another brilliant season.

“He’s in fantastic shape”

“Everyone knows what kind of player he is,” teammate Ola Aina told TNT Sports recently.

“There are certain situations where we only look to him to save us from trouble – or to stay in good positions. He has an absolutely fantastic end to the season, and hopefully he continues to do so.

The question is whether the contract situation can change everything. Gibbs-White is entering the final two years of his deal. Will Tottenham be willing to meet the price – which is likely to be very high?

Rivals can ruin the plan

Nottingham Forest’s willingness to keep hold of Gibbs-White, however, can be determined by one other player: Elliot Anderson.

The East Midlands club are unlikely to want to lose more than one key player in the summer window. And Anderson seems eager to get away.

The strongest links with the England international are Manchester United and Manchester City – with an expected price tag of over £100 million.

That is precisely why Forest are unlikely to let go of both Anderson and Gibbs-White. And then it will be very difficult for Tottenham to get their man.

Do Spurs already have the solution?

While the hunt for Gibbs-White is ongoing, James Maddison is about to make a comeback. Maybe Tottenham already have one solution inside the squad?

In addition, the club is waiting for Xavi Simons, who is out with a cruciate ligament injury. Two creative forces that can make the need for a new playmaker less acute.

But one thing is certain: the summer in North London will be anything but calm.
