Liverpool put behind them a lead-heavy follow-up season after the Premier League title. Although there was little that went beyond individual games, the Reds saved their Champions League ticket. Arne Slot had to go, now it’s Andoni Iraola who will bring back “full throttle football” to Anfield. There has been uncertainty as to whether Cody Gakpo is part of this plan.
Gakpo had a disappointing 2025-26 season at club level, going from 18 goals the year before to 9 goals in 52 games this season. However, the winger was not alone in his dip in form, as most of Liverpool’s players lost their form in what was supposed to be the back-to-back title season.

Gakpo, however, looked much better at the World Cup, accounting for three goals and one assist before the Netherlands’ shocking round of 16 win over Morocco.
Gakpo will soon return to Liverpool to start pre-season training under new head coach Andoni Iraola. Various reports have predicted that the 27-year-old could leave Anfield this summer, with interest signalled from several clubs, with Tottenham leading the way.
De Zerbi has ordered a new left winger and striker after completing a number of impressive signings to improve his backline and midfield. According to talkSPORT, Tottenham will return empty-handed from Anfield.
“Liverpool are not planning to sell winger Cody Gakpo this summer,” Alex Crook of talkSPORT begins in his latest Transfer Notebook.

-Gakpo is on Tottenham’s list of transfer targets, while several other clubs are also keeping an eye on the Dutch ace. Despite his form declining last season, sources have informed talkSPORT that the 27-year-old is still part of their plans. In fact, Liverpool want to expand their wide options, not reduce them, says the journalist.
