Gakpo is a completely different type of discussion. Tottenham’s interest is genuine, but Liverpool’s attitude is more conditional. Gakpo’s transfer depends on the Liverpool movement
From Tottenham’s perspective, this is where the situation becomes delicate. Liverpool are in no hurry to weaken their offensive depth until substitutes are secured. As stated in the report, “they don’t want to commit to that sale,” while uncertainty about incoming business still prevails everywhere.

That explains why Spurs are following developments rather than accelerating immediately. Internally, this looks like a waiting game for the right signal, effectively a green light from Merseyside when Liverpool feel sufficiently covered.
While Gakpo is still attractive, Savinho currently looks like the more realistic short-term deal. Tottenham need speed, directness and another real threat in the final third, and the Brazilian would tick more boxes. The fact that he has reportedly informed Manchester City that he wants the transfer naturally strengthens Spurs’ position.
It is also noteworthy that Tottenham are still spending energy on both. As the report states, “Tottenham are keen on both Savinho and Gakpo”, underlining the extent of the club’s ambitions in attacking areas. It may reflect a desire to add depth and variety, not just one flag.
Competition and price still matter
There are other variables. Newcastle United are said to be admiring Gakpo, although that path has come to a halt due to the 27-year-old’s valuation. Bayern Munich, who were previously interested, have not resumed the hunt. There is also mention of “interest from other Premier League clubs”, but without firm details.
For Spurs, it leaves a clear message. Gakpo is still on the radar, Savinho is moving faster, and De Zerbi wants attacking upgrades before the campaign starts. For now, north London is waiting for Liverpool’s next step.
