It’s not about titles, but about something, which for Spurs supporters is so much more important this season. Last season, Postecoglu led Tottenham to Europa League success, but downgraded the overall Premier League to 17th in the table. This season it has gone even further south, now it is about survival in the top division. On the other side of the pitch are the Chelsea players, who will shake off a cup final defeat this weekend – and show themselves to incoming Chelsea coach, Xavi Alonso, well placed in the VIP stands.
The English media highlight two very different dramas tonight. The Chelsea players are on display in front of Alonso in the stands, here there is a large part of the players who MUST impress Alonso, who will take over from July 1st. The game comes just 72 hours after the heavy FA Cup final loss to Manchester City, this game is surely still in the bones.

For Tottenham, it’s still about survival in the Premier League, but Roberto de Zerbi has led the club to a position where winning the penultimate game against Chelsea also means automatic survival, after West Ham suffered a 3-1 defeat to Newcastle on May 17. In fact, Tottenham have such a stronger goal difference, that one point is also enough before the last league round.
However, it is reminded that Tottenham have a terribly weak record at Stamford Bridge. Just one win in their last 33 Premier League games at Chelsea’s home stadium (all the way back in April 2018) says a lot. At the same time, Chelsea have four straight losses at Stamford Bridge recently.
