Alexis Mac Allister has revealed that he had an offer to leave Liverpool this summer – and that he is “very sad” not to have been offered a new contract by the club.
The midfielder spoke during a press conference on Tuesday, ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League match against Atlético Madrid at Anfield.

It was supposed to be about the game – but the focus quickly shifted to the world champion’s future at Liverpool.
When asked how close he was to leaving the club before the season, Mac Allister replied:
“It was a possibility. As everyone knows, I was told that the club was not able to offer me a new contract. It makes me very, very sad.
“Always gives 100 percent”
Mac Allister emphasizes that he has never failed on the pitch:
“Everyone can see that I give 100 percent for this club – every day in training, in every game. Of course, I have good and bad days, like everyone else, but I always give everything.
“I see Dominik [Szoboszlai] and Ryan [Gravenberch] renewing their contracts, and that makes me very happy – because they deserve it. At the same time, it makes me a little sad that I didn’t get mine.
“But there’s still time. The fans don’t have to worry – I’m giving 100 percent until the last day I’m here. We’ll see what happens. There were options to leave in the summer, but right now I feel like I’m at the right club – and I have the attitude to give everything for this club.

Contract until 2028 – but no extension yet
Mac Allister joined Liverpool from Brighton in 2023 and has a contract until the end of next season (2028). Since arriving, he has scored 19 goals and provided 20 assists in 153 appearances – winning both the Premier League and Carabao Cup with the club.
When asked if he had been given a reason why the club did not offer him a new contract, he replied:
– Not really. There was no direct conversation with me – it was through my agent. I don’t want to say things they never said, but what I was told by the agent was that they were not in a position to extend with me.
“It’s really sad because we won the Premier League together, we’ve been through tough times together and I always give my best. We’ll see what happens – but of course it makes me a little sad.
Szoboszlai and Gravenberch extended – several profiles may disappear
Mac Allister’s statements come in the wake of both Szoboszlai and Gravenberch being given new long-term contracts – the Hungarian until 2031 and the Dutchman until 2032.
At the same time, Mohamed Salah, Ibrahima Konaté and Andy Robertson left the club at the end of their contracts before the end of the season. Alisson and Virgil van Dijk also have contracts that expire at the end of the season.
Mac Allister is one of four Liverpool players under contract until 2028 – along with Federico Chiesa, Vítězslav Jaroš and Rio Ngumoha. But for now, it does not appear that an extension is imminent.
