Now the rivals are circling around, looking for an opportunity to “catch” the biggest stars, if the exits come. On the day Erling Haaland leaves City, the arrow is pointing towards La Liga, but transfer journalist Graham Bailey points out that reigning Premier League champions Arsenal have the financial backbone – and interest – to carry a Haaland signing.

“Our understanding is that the timeline – regardless of a relegation to City – was that Haaland and his camp were looking at 2027 [for a transfer], because there is a break between major [international] competitions,” Bailey begins.
“I was told by an Arsenal source [that] if a player like Haaland comes on the market – as they are one of the biggest clubs in Europe – they will be interested. And obviously, as we know, they are looking for a striker. They spent the whole summer trying to sign Julian Alvarez, so no doubt they also have the money, if they are going to do it,” the transfer journalist explains.
