One would think that the downturn that Liverpool experienced after Trent Alexander-Arnold left his childhood club just over a year ago would give Real Madrid a similar boost. – But that was far from the case. The 27-year-old has struggled to settle in the Spanish capital and now there are persistent rumours of a return to the Premier League.
The signature of a player in his position does not quell those rumours.
Real Madrid have officially announced the signing of Denzel Dumfries from Serie A champions Inter Milan. The Dutch international has signed a four-year contract with the LaLiga giants.

The transfer fee has not been officially confirmed, but according to reports, Real Madrid have activated the 30-year-old’s buyout clause – which is said to be just over £17 million.
In a short statement, the club wrote:
A summer of big changes
Dumfries will be Real’s fourth signing this summer – after Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva and Ibrahima Konaté. He was part of the Dutch team that was knocked out of the World Cup in the round of 32 by Morocco.
At Real Madrid, he will challenge England’s Trent Alexander-Arnold for the spot at right-back – a battle for playing time that is sure to raise the level of both or send Trent Alexander away from the Santiago Bernabeu. We think sales are the most likely!
Inter says goodbye – with warm words
Inter Milan thanked their outgoing player with a heartfelt greeting:
In his five years in Italy, Dumfries won two Serie A titles and three Coppa Italia trophies after his move from PSV in 2021.
In total, he made 207 appearances for Inter, scoring 27 goals and recording 28 assists – impressive numbers for a full-back.
Now a new challenge awaits in Spain. For Dumfries – and for Real Madrid – this is the start of a new chapter.
