Manchester United disappeared from the FA Cup already in January last season. It was former United striker Danny Welbeck’s goal for Brighton that sent his old club out of the cup with a 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford. Six months later, the 35-year-old is relevant for one of England’s biggest clubs.
In front of his old boss Sir Alex Ferguson and with his former teammate Darren Fletcher as interim boss of his old club, Welbeck hammered in Brighton’s second goal to send them through to the fourth round. “It was the 35-year-old’s eighth goal against Manchester United and his sixth visit to the stadium he previously called home. Danny Welbeck left Manchester United in 2024 and before joining Brighton in 2020, he played first for Arsenal and then Watford.

Welbeck has 400 Premier League games under his belt and is still keeping up the pace. Last season, the striker scored 13 Premier League goals, the 9th highest scoring player in the world’s toughest league.
According to The Athletic , he could be on his way to what is probably the last big transfer of his career. So it’s remarkable that it’s about Chelsea.

The English media claims there is a “reported willingness from all parties to get the deal done”, with Xabi Alonso having booked several Premier League veterans to the squad.
