We’ve been buzzing over how many articles about Zidane we’ve written since his coaching exit from Real Madrid in 2021, where the topic has been his next coaching job. Zizou has been linked with several big jobs, but has made it clear early on that he would lead either France or PSG (if the timing was right). It never became PSG, after the 2022 World Cup, many thought Zidane was on his way in as the new coach of Les Bleus, but Deschamps was persuaded by the football president (who disliked the idea of Zidane getting the job) to continue. Now Deschamps is done after the 2026 World Cup, on Tuesday came the confirmation we have been waiting for.
Deschamps is considered the most successful coach in France’s history, having won the World Cup in 2018. He announced long before this year’s World Championships that it would be his last. Zidane has shown as Real Madrid coach with his 11 titles, that he has just as much to do on the sidelines as out on the match arena as a player.

“After several years of waiting and months of not so good secrecy, it is finally clear that Zinédine Zidane will be the French national team manager,” writes L’Equipe on Tuesday.
