Alejandro Garnacho has reacted to the shocking news that Man United prodigy JJ Gabriel is pushing for an exit – with a bizarre post on social media.
Before the 2026/27 season, few young players playing for Premier League teams had as many eyes on them as Manchester United’s Gabriel, despite the fact that he has yet to play a senior game for the club.
It therefore came as a big surprise when it came to light that Gabriel was suddenly pushing to leave United as soon as possible. That led to a reaction from Garnacho – a player who was previously seen as the “Gabriel of United”.

When he joined United in 2020 from Atlético Madrid as just 16 years old, expectations were high for Garnacho to develop into a key player at the club.
Just two years later, after excelling in United’s FA Youth Cup triumph in 2022 with two goals in the final, the Argentine made his senior debut against Chelsea in April of the same year.
In total, Garnacho played 144 games with 26 goals and 22 assists in all competitions during his United career.
But unfortunately for both the player and the club, the end of their time together will forever be what defines Garnacho’s tenure at United. The youngster left the club after falling out of favor with both the club management and fans.
After only playing as a substitute in the Europa League final defeat in 2025 – after falling out publicly with then-manager Ruben Amorim – Garnacho joined Chelsea in August 2025 for reportedly £40 million plus a 10% sell-out clause.
Despite Chelsea showing confidence in Garnacho with a contract that keeps him at Stamford Bridge until 2032, the transfer hasn’t exactly worked out. The club has ultimately opted to loan the striker to Aston Villa for the season, with a conditional purchase commitment reportedly worth around the same 40 million spent on buying him.
Now it looks like Gabriel could go down a similar path – and take a big risk on himself by publicly pushing himself out of United, just like Garnacho did.
And it seems that Garnacho is very aware of these comparisons. He shared a viral video on TikTok in which he showed reports of Gabriel’s recent actions, before asking: “Where have we seen this before?” – followed by videos showing Garnacho’s best moments at United and a clip of him playing against his former club during his transfer to Chelsea.
While it’s hard to know exactly what Garnacho means by reposting the video, many United fans have interpreted it as a warning to Gabriel that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
Reacting to the video, one fan wrote, “Am I the only one who thinks that this Garnacho post is not a jab, but rather an admission that he made a mistake?”
Another agreed: “I could be completely wrong here, but I interpret this as a warning from Garnacho to JJ. Don’t end up like me. I’m absolutely sure that Garnacho, first of all, has a lot of remorse.”
A third added: “You have to empathize with him. As he gets older, he will definitely deeply regret the opportunity he wasted. It’s a shame that his career is not over – there is still time.”
Where will JJ Gabriel go?
Despite Garnacho’s message, it still seems more likely than not that Gabriel will leave United in the near future. Several big clubs are linked with him.
Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are all said to be keen to sign the Manchester United youngster – that’s how big the talent he has already shown as a 15-year-old.
Of course, a transfer within the Premier League is also possible, but he will have to wait until he turns 16 in October to join another Premier League team. Chelsea is not an option, as they are banned from signing academy players until December.
However, because his mother is Greek Cypriot, a loophole in regulations allows European clubs to sign Gabriel before he turns 16 – if he holds dual citizenship. That seems to make a move abroad more likely.
