Andoni Iraola has slowly but surely built up a Liverpool that is not particularly extraordinary, but is paying off. Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher was sceptical about the appointment of the Spaniard, but must now admit Iraola is starting to convince him.
Now, Carragher’s opinion is not necessarily the correct one, but the arguments that Iraola has gradually convinced as Liverpool boss are interesting.

Here is Carragher’s analysis in The Telegraph:
“Encouragingly, Iraola does not seem like someone who will delay making the necessary corrections. He has already shown that he is not afraid to make big decisions, regardless of the player’s status.”
“Both full-backs have been dropped, with one recalled because reserve player Kostas Tsimikas was so bad against Fulham that he wasn’t even in the squad on Tuesday night. Iraola left out Ryan Gravenberch due to his form, while he decided, unless others are injured, that Federico Chiesa and Wataru Endo will not play Champions League football this season.”
“It was brave to support the youngsters in the middle of the week. It felt like an important night for the club and Iraola. He has the opportunity to make big decisions early in his reign because the shortcomings in the squad are so obvious. Such determination has helped to allay some of my initial scepticism when Iraola got the job. The further this season progresses, the more difficult and significant his decisions will be given how far away Liverpool are from becoming title contenders.”
