Arsenal are ready to make a bid for a player who has already been referred to as “the new Lionel Messi” – and the transfer could become a reality in the summer window.

The Gunners have the luxury of being able to focus on young talent from all over the world, rather than spending large sums of money on strengthening the first team. After winning the Premier League last season, they have shown that the current squad is good enough to go all the way – and now they can plan for the long term.

Arsenal pushed for the signing of Leicester winger Jeremy Monga and agreed terms with the 16-year-old – but he now looks set to move to Manchester City. Nevertheless, the focus on youngsters continues.

£17 million bid

According to a report by Parma Live, Arsenal are preparing a bid of around £17 million for Boca Juniors winger Tomás Aranda – a player that the Argentine media have already compared to Lionel Messi.

The Gunners face competition from Parma and Como, but Argentina’s young star has a buyout clause that is below what Arsenal are willing to pay. Now Parma are considering withdrawing from the fight for the player, as they feel they cannot compete.

If Arsenal officially make the bid, there is a good chance that they will secure his signature.

Argentine media rejoices

Argentine media have previously referred to Aranda in very strong terms:

There is no doubt that Aranda has similarities with his compatriot Messi. Reaching the heights of perhaps the greatest player of all time will be a huge challenge – but a move to a top league could be just what he needs to flourish.
