There are few things more tempting than Barcelona, both for football players and for those of us who just want to visit the city. Barcelona have made their interest in Harry Kane clear, so he can at least reflect on the possibility of the world’s best tapas, while negotiating with Bayern Munich.

Although the signals from the Bundesliga giant are that they will reach an agreement, the negotiations are going to be tough. Harry Kane knows he is one of the best footballers of all time and knows he gets paid. Bayern Munich have financial rules they are ready to break, while Barcelona are like me and “max” all the time.

– The 33-year-old’s contract talks with Bayern could open the door for the Catalans

Harry Kane has emerged as a possible weapon for FC Barcelona in the closing stages of the transfer window – should renewal talks with Bayern Munich break down.

The Englishman has a contract with Bayern until 2027, but the Germans want to extend the deal before it enters its final phase. According to information in the Mirror , Barça are following the situation closely – and have already shown interest in the 33-year-old.

Kane wants three more years in Germany, while Bayern want to avoid a situation that could make it easier for him to leave the club.

A bit of money talk: Harry Kane already earns €480,769 a week, which is €180,000 above Bayern Munich’s self-proclaimed loss. Lionel Messi, who is the highest earner at Barcelona, brought in over 90 million euros a year or about 1.7 million euros a week. Bild writes that Bayern Munich will be willing to stretch to 500,000 euros, but with increased bonuses for winning the Bundesliga and Champions League.

Bayern want to keep Kane

Bayern Munich have put Kane’s future high on the agenda. The club’s CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen admitted at the end of July that both the club and the player are interested in a deal – and that talks would continue after Kane was back in Germany.

The numbers speak for themselves. Kane has scored 146 goals in 147 official games since arriving from Tottenham in the summer of 2023 for £86.4 million. His performances remained at a very high level in the 2025/26 season as well, despite his 33rd birthday.

In the Bundesliga, he topped the scorers list for the third season in a row with 36 goals – and won his second European Golden Boot.

Barcelona on alert

Barça is one of the clubs that is monitoring the situation closely. Kane’s name has been linked to the Catalans for months, and he was previously considered as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski – especially now that Julián Álvarez has been written off as an option.

Barcelona have already signed Anthony Gordon, Rodri and Karim Adeyemi this summer, while Ferran Torres has left for PSG and Lewandowski left the club after his contract expired.

A possible Kane transfer would mean bringing in a striker who last season scored over 60 goals in all competitions – and who in the Bundesliga has scored 98 goals in 94 games since his arrival.

Competition from Saudi Arabia

Barça are not alone in following Kane. Al-Hilal have also shown interest in the England captain, which could create competition if a new deal in Germany is not forthcoming.

For the Catalans, any operation will have to fit into the club’s financial framework – and comply with La Liga’s registration rules.

Next move

Now the ball is in Kane and Bayern’s court. The parties will continue talks on an extension of the contract that expires in 2027 – with the striker wanting three more years in Munich.

If they do not agree, Barcelona are ready to consider a transfer. The question is whether Kane will stay in Germany – or if he will make the trip to Spain.
