– The Spaniard returns home after eight legendary years in Manchester

FC Barcelona have reached an agreement in principle with Manchester City on the transfer of Rodri – and the price tag is now clear: 76.5 million euros.

The 30-year-old, who signs a four-year contract at Barcelona, is sold for an initial fixed sum of €60 million plus another €16.5 million in easily obtainable bonuses.

Therefore, the price was higher than Barcelona’s first bid

Manchester City expect to earn at least €71.5 million guaranteed on a player who has less than 12 months left on his contract in the Premier League. The final amount is far higher than Barcelona’s original proposal on August 7, which was 45 million euros (£38.6 million) plus bonuses – a bid City rejected because it did not meet their official valuation of 80 million euros.

Rodri turned down a contract extension in England after winning both the Premier League and the 2026 World Cup – where he was also named the tournament’s best player and awarded the Ballon d’Or.

Real Madrid have also reportedly inquired about the Spaniard’s contract situation, but Rodri’s clear preference for Camp Nou is said to have been crucial for the clubs to reach an agreement.

Contract details and Flick’s midfield solution

The contract between Barcelona and Rodri runs until June 2030. The Barcelona management accelerated negotiations to fill the gap left by the injured Frenkie de Jong, who is out for several months with a cruciate ligament injury in his right knee.

Rodri leaves Manchester City after arriving there from Atlético Madrid in 2019 for €70 million – at the time his release clause. He made 298 appearances for City, scoring 28 goals and providing 32 assists. On his track record are 4 Premier League titles, 2 FA Cups, 3 League Cups and one Champions League title.

Soon in Barcelona

FC Barcelona and Manchester City will exchange bank guarantees for the first €60 million within 24 hours. Once the financial documents are approved, Rodri will travel to Barcelona for medical tests and to sign his new four-year contract – before the weekend.

Once again, Barcelona have shown that they are back among the greats. Rodri is signed. Now all that remains is to wait for the official presentation.
